Steelers Free Agency Addition Reveals Hilarious New Nickname

'Kenny G' has arrived in Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers have rostered players with incredible nicknames over the course of their illustrious history.

“Mean” Joe Greene practically invented the sports nickname. James Harrison has been referred to as “Deebo” for nearly two decades. “The Bus” and “Fast Willie” powered a run to the Super Bowl, with “Big Ben” and “Psycho Ward” riding alongside them the entire way.

We might have a new contender to join that list, though.

Kenneth Gainwell was introduced after signing his free agent contract on Friday, and may have given himself a nickname when asked what he preferred to be called.

“It really don’t matter,” Gainwell said, per team-provided video. “Kenny, Kenny G. You want to call me Kenny G? You got it, baby. You got it.”

Cue the jazz music!

Pittsburgh is hoping that “Kenny G” can provide a wrinkle in the backfield, though alternate moves almost certainly need to be made in order to upgrade a rushing attack that finished fourth-worst in yards per carry last season. Najee Harris is gone, but an insanely deep draft class might just allow the club to turn things around in the running back room rather quickly.
