Steelers Reportedly Bring Back Core Special Teamer For Second Season

The Steelers didn't overlook their special teams unit

The Pittsburgh Steelers made some splashy moves already this offseason, most notably trading for superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf and signing six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay.

Ben Skowronek won’t go in the same category as those players, but he still has an important role with the Steelers.

And the franchise made sure he didn’t go elsewhere in free agency as NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that the Steelers re-signed Skowronek. Rapoport didn’t reveal any details about terms of the deal.

Skowronek played his first season with Pittsburgh last season after three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. The 6-foot-3, 224-pound receiver only caught five passes on the season, but contributed on special teams with seven tackles and two fumble recovers. He also returned four kicks.

The 27-year-old figures to play another key role on Pittsburgh’s special teams next season, and perhaps the Steelers can get more out of him on offense, too. Skowronek broke out in 2022 with the Rams when he tallied 39 receptions for 376 yards. Getting any production like that on offense from Skowronek would be a cheery on top for the Steelers.
