Pirates Star Ke’Bryan Hayes Dealing With Another Injury

Hayes is dealing with tightness

Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes is dealing with yet another injury.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Noah Hiles reported the news Monday. Pirates manager Derek Shelton revealed that his veteran infielder was experiencing “left side tightness” that kept him out of the lineup for nearly a week, though the expectation is Hayes will be back on the field at some point this week.

The 28-year-old fielded ground balls Tuesday and will take swings Wednesday, per Shelton.

Hayes has been dealing with injuries for the better part of two seasons, with his lower-back injury potentially remaining an issue for the remainder of his career. Hayes is entering the fourth year of an eight-year, $70 million deal he signed in April 2022.

The Pirates are hoping he’ll be able to return to the field soon, with Opening Day around the corner on March 27.
