Much of the conversation about the Steelers quarterback situation has been focused on the free-agent market, but perhaps Pittsburgh could fill the need in the NFL draft.
… As in drafting Shedeur Sanders.
The Athletic’s NFL draft expert Dane Brugler released his post-NFL Scouting Combine mock draft Tuesday. Brugler predicted Sanders to fall to the Steelers at No. 21 overall.
“Sanders is going to be a wild card in this draft,” Brugler wrote. “He could go in the top six or fall out of the first round entirely — and neither outcome would be a shock.
“He is not a first-round quarterback for a lot of NFL teams, which isn’t a major surprise (and matches my evaluation). But all it takes is one front office to roll the dice on his skill set. If Sanders falls out of the top 10, this would be an interesting landing spot. The Steelers are searching for answers at the QB position.”

Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are set to hit free agency next week. It’s caused endless speculation as to who Pittsburgh might prefer, and rumors involving veterans signal-callers previously on the trade market.
Perhaps Pittsburgh allows the board to come to them instead.
