One of the NFL’s premier insiders believes the Steelers’ quarterback room won’t undergo a complete overhaul this offseason.
Pittsburgh is in a fascinating spot heading into the new NFL year, as both of its top two quarterbacks from the 2024 campaign are ticketed for free agency. Neither Russell Wilson nor Justin Fields were world-beaters last season, but both showed enough promise to garner attention this spring — perhaps even from teams looking for a new starter.
But despite potential interest outside of Pittsburgh, Adam Schefter believes Mike Tomlin and company will be able to hang on to either Wilson or Fields.
“Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, one of them will be back,” Schefter said last week on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast, as transcribed by Sports Illustrated. “One of them I expect to be back.”
Re-signing Fields or Wilson would fulfill the desires of Steelers owner Art Rooney II, who wants the storied organization to retain one of those two signal-callers. Fields reportedly has “an edge” over Wilson in Pittsburgh, but the upside for the 2021 first-round pick could lead to a more appealing opportunity elsewhere.

All things considered, the Steelers should have a number of plans ready to go as they try to stabilize the situation behind center.
