Pittsburgh Steelers punter Cameron Johnston took a massive step in his recovery after missing all of last season with a knee injury he sustained in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Johnston posted a video on social media of himself running on the field at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex for the first time since the injury.
“Felt great to be back running on the field again today!” Johnston captioned on X with the video.
The Steelers brought back punter Corliss Waitman to replace the injured Johnston last season. Pittsburgh signed Johnston with the hopes of improving their special teams unit, but the injury required surgery and left his future with the team uncertain.
From the video, Johnston appears to be moving well, which bodes well for the 33-year-old punter and the team. However, it’s unknown if Johnston will be healthy enough to get to work in training camp and battle Waitman for the starting position. The special teams units were one of the Steelers’ biggest strengths last season, and getting Johnston back would only bolster the squad even more.
