Much of the talk around the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason centers around what they will do at quarterback.
But the Steelers also have an important decision to make at the running back position.
Najee Harris is set to hit free agency while Jaylen Warren is an unrestricted free agent. The two combined for 1,554 yards rushing and seven touchdowns on the ground.
Harris will be the tougher piece of the duo to retain since a team could throw a boatload of money at him on the open market. But Pittsburgh general manager Omar Khan told reporters Tuesday from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that he expects Warren to be in a Steelers uniform next season.
“I’m confident we’re going to tender him and be in a position where Jaylen is gonna be here,” Khan told reporters, per Jack Markowski of FOX 8.

The Steelers could place a first-round, second-round or right-of-first refusal tender on Warren. That would allow them to match any offer Warren receives from another team. And if Pittsburgh decides not to match the contract and Warren signs elsewhere, the Steelers would get draft compensation equal to the tender they placed. All tenders are one-year deals.
A tender on Warren most likely would scare off any potential suitors and give the Steelers perhaps their lead back for the 2025 season if Harris doesn’t return.
Warren battled injuries this past season but ran for 511 yards and a touchdown while also recording 38 receptions for 310 yards.
