Steelers GM Offers Details Of Talks With Free Agent Quarterbacks

Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are set to enter the market in March

The Steelers could lose both of their top two quarterbacks in free agency, which could set the franchise back with a questionable signal-caller market.

Russell Wilson’s and Justin Fields’ futures in Pittsburgh are up in the air. Wilson showed a limited playoff ceiling and Fields could enter the open market and earn himself a hefty amount of money.

General manager Omar Khan held a news conference at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday and stated the team’s clear goal of reaching a deal with a quarterback, preferably Fields or Wilson, per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.

“He said the Steelers have engaged with both of them, and he believes both QBs are interested in returning,” Pryor posted on X.

Khan’s comments came after multiple trade rumors involving the Steelers surfaced. Pittsburgh also was linked to Aaron Rodgers after the New York Jets confirmed they would part ways with the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

There reportedly is “internal optimism” that Fields will re-sign, but Wilson also seems motivated to run it back with Pittsburgh. The QB questions for the Steelers will depend on how free agency and trade markets shake out. It might also depend on which player head coach Mike Tomlin and his staff prefer.
