Sidney Crosby Comments On Torch-Passing Moment With Connor McDavid

Canada beat the U.S. on a golden goal sound familiar?

Team Canada beat the United States by a golden goal. Does that sound familiar?

Sidney Crosby’s game-winner is one of the most iconic goals in hockey history. It was a moment fans quickly identified when Connor McDavid scored the game-winner in overtime against Team USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship. The ever-humble superstar and team captain is never afraid to give another player their props.

“I wasn’t sure right away because guys were jumping everywhere, but I realized it was him,” Crosby told Sportsnet’s Kyle Bukauskas on Thursday. “Like I said, couldn’t be happier for him. He cares so much. He’s an unbelievable player. He’s done already a lot in his career. I’m sure this one feels good, and we needed it. We needed it big time.”

The Pittsburgh Penguins superstar also honored Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand during the trophy ceremony since Thursday’s final was played at TD Garden. The 4 Nations Face-Off gold was Crosby’s sixth of his career. McDavid already is considered one of the all-time greats, but even with his fourth gold medal in his career, a Stanley Cup title still eludes him.

Crosby will hope to ride the momentum of a 4 Nations victory when the Penguins face the Washington Capitals at PPG Paints Arena. Pittsburgh is expected to honor legendary broadcaster Mike Lange following his death this week.
