NFL Analyst Views NFC Team As Ideal Spot For Russell Wilson

Wilson to the Giants?

Russell Wilson might not be long for Pittsburgh.

An impending free agent after he concluded a one-year deal with the Steelers, the veteran quarterback didn’t do anything to solidify his standing with Mike Tomlin’s team. Wilson’s second-half slide was among the reasons Pittsburgh ran out of gas right before it reached the postseason.

Such an ending might have played a factor in ESPN’s Matt Bowen labeling the New York Giants as the “best fit” for Wilson next season. ESPN ranks the 36-year-old signal-caller as the 42nd free agent scheduled to hit the open market.

“Sitting at No. 3 in the draft order, the Giants are in the mix to land a quarterback with their first-round pick this spring,” Bowen wrote. “But adding Wilson would give them some security heading into the draft. In 11 starts for the Steelers, Wilson completed 63.7% of his throws for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns. Because of his diminished mobility, Wilson isn’t a natural creator at this stage. But Giants coach Brian Daboll can scheme for Wilson, using a play-action-heavy approach and setting him up on vertical throws.”

The Steelers instead are listed as the “best fit” for fellow quarterback Justin Fields, who checked in 10 spots higher on the Worldwide Leader’s list of free agents. Fields wasn’t the only player linked to the Steelers, though, and you can check out the rest of them here.
