Trevor Lawrence admitted he initially was taken aback by a recent report.
The Jaguars quarterback was name-dropped in a stunning trade rumor last week that claimed the Steelers made calls on the 2021 No. 1 overall pick. Lawrence learned about the report from his agent before he saw it for himself on social media.
“He texted me, ‘Hey, this is a report that is out there. I don’t think there’s anything to it, but I’ll check into it,'” Lawrence told Kay Adams during an interview on the “Up & Adams Show” on Monday.
“When he sent it to me, I was like, I wouldn’t say your heart drops, but you’re kind of like, what? And then I’m thinking about how I can’t even get — I have a no-trade clause in my contract, so I would know about it if I was getting traded, or if that was something that was gonna happen I’d have to be on board with it, which I’m not. I’m happy here in Jacksonville. I plan on — we want to win a Super Bowl here, and I think we can do that. And I don’t want to leave Jacksonville. So I’m happy here, obviously not going to Pittsburgh.”
Lawrence revealed his agent reached out to ESPN’s Adam Schefter to gain further insight since the Jaguars are still in the process of hiring a general manager. Jacksonville named Liam Cohen its head coach earlier this offseason, but has yet to backfill the role previously held by Trent Baalke.

“Liam texted me, actually, I guess the day after it came out, and Liam said, ‘Shouldn’t even have to say this, but that’s not coming from us,'” Lawrence recalled. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I figured.’ So we’re all good. He didn’t even have to send that. There was no doubt on my side.”
Lawrence doesn’t know whether Pittsburgh’s “wants or desires” were real, but he’s content knowing he won’t be leaving Jacksonville any time soon.
