The Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues made a minor league trade on Thursday.
The Penguins acquired forward Mathias Laferriere from the Blues in exchange for forward Corey Andonovski, president of hockey operations and general manager Kyle Dubas announced.
Laferriere was St. Louis’ sixth-round pick in 2018. He has 21 goals and 49 assists across 207 AHL games with the Springfield Thunderbirds. In 33 games this season, Laferriere has lit the lamp twice and added eight helpers. The 24-year-old, 6-foot-2. 181-pound forward is signed through the 2024-25 season and carries an annual average value of $775,000 at the NHL level. Laferriere will report to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
He skated in five seasons in the QMJHL between 2016-21 with Cape Breton and Blainville-Boisbriand. In 238 career junior games, Laferriere registered 82 goals, 132 assists and 214 points.
Andonovski has played in 157 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, amassing 54 points (18 goals and 36 assists) across parts of four seasons. The 25-year-old signed with the Penguins in 2021 after being undrafted following his collegiate career with Princeton. Andonvski has played in just 27 games this season, netting three goals with five points. He is slated to report to Springfield.
