Steelers Rumors: Door Not Closed On Najee Harris Return

Is Najee Harris sticking around?

The Steelers would probably be wise to look at upgrading the running back position, but it seems as though they might be content with Najee Harris.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac believes there’s a decent chance the 26-year-old will return to Pittsburgh in 2025.

“Well, I would tell you there will be no hometown discount,” Dulac wrote in his recent Steelers Chat. “But I think the chances are better he returns than not.”

Harris hasn’t quite lived up to the billing as a former first-round pick, despite passing the century mark in rushing yards each of his four seasons. The Steelers have lacked a dynamic attack for quite a while, save for a few weeks with Justin Fields under center last season. Harris has been just fine, but they clearly need more than that, and the potential cost to retain their current starter likely won’t include a hometown discount.

The 2025 NFL Draft is one of the strongest we’ve seen at the position in years, which has many believing the time is right to move on from Harris. Jaylen Warren is entering restricted free agency, too, though, so there’s a real chance Pittsburgh is left looking to upgrade the two top spots on the depth chart.
