Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby will miss his first game since 2022.
Pittsburgh head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed the captain would miss Friday’s matchup against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Crosby participated in morning skate this week and Friday after suffering an upper-body injury during a shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
“Taking it one day at a time,” Sullivan told reporters, per SportsNet Pittsburgh broadcaster Josh Getzoff.
Friday also marks the first game the Penguins will play without Crosby and Evgeni Malkin since Nov. 13, 2021, per Dan Rosen of NHL.com.
The matchup against the Penguins is the first of a back-to-back set. Pittsburgh plays the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, which will be its final game before the 4 Nations Face-Off break. Crosby’s status for Team Canada is unknown.
