The Penguins took their time with Sidney Crosby a day after a shootout loss.
Crosby briefly left Tuesday’s matchup against the Devils after an awkward collision between Luke Hughes and Erik Haula. The Pittsburgh captain returned and fans at PPG Paints Arena erupted into cheers. The Pens earned a third-period goal to send the game into overtime, and they came away with one point.
Head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed to reporters Wednesday that Crosby suffered an upper-body injury in that collision and would be evaluated in the next few days, per Sportsnet. The 37-year-old did not participate in morning skate.
“I don’t have any more specifics. Once we have more specifics, I’ll let you know,” Sullivan told reporters, per team reporter Michelle Crechiolo.
If Crosby missed Friday’s matchup against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, it would mean Pittsburgh would be playing without Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. However, Sullivan was confident in his side’s ability to step in if needed.
