Steelers Suggested To “Prioritize” 49ers Pro Bowl Safety In Free Agency

Pittsburgh will be busy

Over the next few months, there’s going to be a lot of chatter about the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Most of it is going to have to do with the quarterback position, but there is more work that the team needs to do. Over the final stretch of the season, Pittsburgh’s defense didn’t play up to its standard. The Steelers will need to find a way to add more pieces and the secondary could use a boost.

Because of this, CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani suggested that the Steelers “prioritize” San Francisco 49ers Pro Bowl safety Talanoa Hufanga on his list of one player for each team to go after in free agency.

“Pittsburgh Steelers – S Talanoa Hufanga,” Dajani said. “Hufanga was named an All-Pro in 2022 after recording four interceptions, nine passes defensed and two sacks to go along with 97 combined tackles, but unfortunately tore his ACL late in the 2023 season. Can you imagine what Pittsburgh’s defense could be capable of with Minkah Fitzpatrick and Hufanga roaming the secondary?”

Hufanga is going to be an interesting player to watch out for. He’s just 25 years old and has a first-team All-Pro nod under his belt, but he has played in just 17 games over the last two seasons. When he’s on the field, he’s capable of being one of the best safeties in football. Could that be with Pittsburgh in 2025 after a stint in free agency this offseason?
