The Pittsburgh Penguins weren’t able to turn things around on Monday night.
Pittsburgh lost their third-straight game as they faced the San Jose Sharks in a West Coast showdown — losing by a score of 2-1. The lone goal for the Penguins came off the stick of captain Sidney Crosby, marking his 15th of the season and his second game in a row finding the back of the net.
The Sharks scored first in the game when Mikael Granlund potted his 15th of the season. While Crosby’s third-period goal tied things up at once apiece, it was the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft Macklin Celebrini who’d score the game-winner — his 16th goal of his rookie campaign.
It’s worth noting that while the Penguins came up short, the good news was that Bryan Rust returned to the ice and dished out an assist on Crosby’s goal.
Penguins netminder Alex Nedeljkovic had a fine showing in the loss, facing 28 shots and saving 26 of them. Sharks goaltender Yaroslav Askarov outplayed him, however, making 29 saves in the winning effort.
