Steelers Listed As Potential Spot For Star Receiver In Offseason

Will the Steelers find a receiver to pair with George Pickens?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been actively searching for a high-end wide receiver to pair with George Pickens since before last season.

Pickens led Pittsburgh in receiving yards this season with 900 yards, with the next closest wide receiver being Calvin Austin with 548. The way the Steelers’ season ended displayed their need for more receiving threats to improve their offense. Pittsburgh has been linked to nearly every big-name receiver, like Brandon Aiyuk and Davante Adams, but has been unable to add another receiver.

In a listing of NFL stars who may be traded in the offseason, the Steelers were listed as a potential landing spot for San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel, according to Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay.

“Deebo Samuel stands out as the most likely trade candidate on the San Francisco 49ers’ aging and injury-prone roster,” Kay wrote. “Samuel is no stranger to trade rumors. He requested a trade before re-upping with San Francisco in 2022, and general manager John Lynch revealed that he received calls for Samuel during the 2024 draft.”

“Teams like the Washington Commanders and Pittsburgh Steelers—two playoff teams with a notable lack of pass-catching depth—might be willing to pay a premium for Samuel. He’d be an ideal addition to any contender’s receiving corps as a big-time playmaker who could help with a Super Bowl push.”

Samuel only had 670 receiving yards and four total touchdowns this season but is only one year removed from a year with over 1,000 total yards and twelve total touchdowns. Pittsburgh needs to improve its offense this offseason to compete with some of the top teams in the AFC, and adding a receiver of Samuel’s caliber would be a great addition.
