After falling in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight season, the Pittsburgh Steelers need to change their roster for next season.
Pittsburgh got off to a hot start, beginning the season 10-3, but lost four straight to end the regular season and went on to lose to the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs. The Steelers’ defense allowed the eighth-fewest points per game with 20.4 but allowed 27.4 points across their last five games.
Pittsburgh has over $50 million in cap space this offseason and many decisions to make. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo urges the team to part ways with veteran defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi.
“Ogunjobi is due a $3 million roster bonus in March and carries a $10.3 million cap hit for the 2025 season,” Fittipaldo said. “The Steelers can save $7 million if they cut him, which seems like a no-brainer considering the drop-off in his production in 2024.”
“Ogunjobi had fewer sacks (1 ½), tackles (43) and quarterback hits (7) than he did in his first two seasons with the Steelers. The only reason for hesitation is the lack of quality depth on the defensive line, but the Steelers can take the $7 million they’ll save and put it towards a free agent who is younger and better. Decision: Cut him.“

Although the Steelers have other areas where they need to improve, moving on from Ogunjobi, who had the worst season of his career since his rookie year, could be one change they make.
