Steelers Predicted To Re-Sign Young QB Justin Fields For 2025 Season

The Steelers will need to make a choice

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot of tough decisions to make this offseason.

Pittsburgh’s biggest choice that it’s going to have to make is who is going to be the team’s starting quarterback in 2025. The Steelers brought in both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson for the 2024 season and got a good look at both of them. Both will be free agents and it wouldn’t be a shock if one were to return.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler predicted that Fields will be the guy moving forward after speaking to an NFL scouting director.

“Steelers will sign Justin Fields, draft a QB,” Fowler said. “People around the league are torn about what the Steelers should or will do at quarterback. The Russell Wilson experiment was not a failure — he showed promise and gave the offense a lift midseason. But he was signed to help the Steelers in the playoffs, where Pittsburgh lost in the first round again.

“Some executives believe the Steelers could bring back Wilson. But Fields is 25 — 11 years younger — and has an explosive skill set around which the team could build … at least for one more year. ‘I still think this could go either way,’ an NFL scouting director said. ‘Part of me feels like they bring back Russell. Either way, I expect them to draft a quarterback fairly high. They need someone who can be the answer long term.’ The Steelers select No. 21 overall in April, hardly a place to find an elite quarterback in a weaker class.”

Fields is just 25 years old. He’s someone the Steelers could bring in and build around for years to come if they really want to. It makes a lot of sense to go this route.
