Despite a disappointing end to the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have no intention of parting ways with long-time head coach Mike Tomlin.
The Steelers finished the regular season 10-7 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to division rival Baltimore Ravens. Pittsburgh has now lost in the wild-card round of the playoffs four times in the last five seasons, but Tomlin’s 18-straight non-losing seasons keep the team in the mix for the playoffs nearly every season.
After the Chicago Bears reportedly called to inquire about Tomlin’s availability, the Steelers rebuffed their inquiry, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“The Bears recently called the Steelers to see whether they would be allowed to talk to and potentially try to trade for longtime head coach Mike Tomlin, only to have Pittsburgh rebuff their inquiry, league sources told ESPN,” Schefter wrote. “At least one other team besides the Bears checked into the idea that it could somehow could try to trade for Tomlin, only to be informed that the Steelers coach has a no-trade clause in his contract, according to a league source.”
“Tomlin signed a three-year contract extension last offseason that makes him one of the league’s highest-paid head coaches. After 18 seasons in Pittsburgh, his time there shows no signs of letting up, despite any frustrations from the fan base.”

Pittsburgh’s five-game losing streak to end the season contributed to the rumors about Tomlin. His ability to get the most out of his players is something that many teams in the league desire. Although changes need to be made in the offseason, the Steelers have no intention of moving on from Tomlin.
