Penguins Get Back On Winning Track, Earn 5-2 Win Vs. Sabres

Pittsburgh earned a necessary win

The Pittsburgh Penguins have had an up-and-down season but their win on Friday came at the right time.

After dropping three straight games, the Penguins got back in the win column with a 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. The win was powered by five different goal scorers — started by Rickard Rakell and his 23rd goal on the season. Pittsburgh managed to score three power-play goals as Rakell, Cody Glass, and Bryan Rust all got on the board against Buffalo.

Of course, the main story of the Penguins’ victory was goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic. The 29-year-old faced 42 shots, making an impressive 40 saves. But it was the goal scored by Nedeljkovic on the empty net in the third period that was the major highlight of the game — while he also made history by being the first goaltender in NHL history with a goal and an assist in the same game.

With the win, the Penguins move to 19-20-8 on the season — now one game under .500. Pittsburgh will have the opportunity to get back to .500 once and for all on Saturday night when they face off with the Washington Capitals.
