Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson is switching teams again for the third time since being traded in the offseason.
The Steelers dealt Johnson to the Carolina Panthers for cornerback Donte Jackson in the offseason. Johnson only played in seven games with the Panthers before being traded to the Baltimore Ravens. He appeared in four games for Baltimore before being released, only to be picked up by the Houston Texans, appear in one game, and be released.
After being released by the Ravens just a few weeks ago, the team has claimed Johnson off waivers, according to Penn Live’s Nick Farabaugh.
“The Baltimore Ravens have claimed former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson off waivers,” Farabaugh said. “Baltimore released Johnson three weeks ago, but that will not factor into this move. The Ravens will not be awarded Johnson’s rights until after the Super Bowl, so no team can land him again this season.”
“On top of that, if Johnson signs a contract elsewhere that is big enough for a compensatory pick, the Ravens could be awarded a free pick. The Houston Texans cut Johnson on Tuesday after an outburst in the locker room following the team’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Johnson was not happy with his usage once again.”

Johnson was on pace for a good season in Carolina, with 30 receptions on 58 targets for 357 receiving yards and three touchdowns, but has three catches for 18 yards since being traded to the Ravens. Baltimore’s move to claim Johnson is a smart way to avoid having to see him on another contender in the playoffs this season.
