Ex-Steelers Captain Believes Mike Tomlin Should ‘Look Into’ Leaving Franchise

Ryan Clark believes Tomlin should depart the Steel City

One of Mike Tomlin’s former players believes the Steelers head coach should look into leaving Pittsburgh.

“Coach Tomlin should look into whether or not his voice is better suited somewhere else,” former Steelers captain and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark told TMZ Sports. “Whether or not the cachet that he will carry from what he’s done in Pittsburgh will help another locker room more than it’s helping the locker room in Pittsburgh.”

Clark linked Tomlin’s situation to Andy’s Reid departure from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012. Reid, of course, went on to have an abundance of success with the Kansas City Chiefs, who drafted Patrick Mahomes after Reid was in Kansas City.

“Andy Reid’s voice seemed to have lost a little steam in Philadelphia that was picked up in Kansas City,” Clark said. “I believe that can be an answer for Mike Tomlin.”

The 52-year-old Tomlin, who has coached in the Steel City for 18 seasons, has not won a playoff game in eight years. The Steelers again fizzled out down the stretch, their 2024 campaign concluding with a blowout loss to their AFC North division rival Baltimore Ravens.
