The Pittsburgh Steelers season finished earlier than they had hoped for with their 28-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the playoffs.
Despite quarterback Russell Wilson playing his best game in over a month, throwing for 270 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers, the Steelers couldn’t overcome the Ravens. Pittsburgh’s defense could not stop the Ravens’ offense, who put up 464 total yards, with Derrick Henry accounting for 186 on the ground himself.
With Wilson and Justin Fields set to become free agents at the end of the season, the Steelers may look elsewhere for a quarterback. Pittsburgh could be a potential landing spot for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold, according to Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t have any more fun on Wild Card Weekend than the Vikings,” Davenport said. “They were rolled by the rival Baltimore Ravens for their fifth straight loss to end the season. They still have yet to finish with a losing record under head coach Mike Tomlin, but their last postseason victory came in 2016, Since then, Pittsburgh has lost six straight playoff games.”
“This boils down to a fairly simple equation. Do the Steelers believe they are close enough to contend for a Super Bowl that the difference in talent between Darnold and Wilson is worth the difference in salary? Could Darnold be the proverbial missing piece? If Pittsburgh believes the 14-win Darnold wasn’t a fluke, kicking the tires would make sense.”

Darnold revitalized his career with the Vikings, having his best season. He threw for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Darnold brought the Vikings to a 14-3 record and is set to be a free agent. His high level of play would be an improvement for the Steelers offense.
