Penguins Placing Starting Goaltender Tristan Jarry On Waivers

After a rocky first half of the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins have seemingly made a major decision regarding their longtime starting goaltender.

Pittsburgh announced Wednesday that they would be placing starting netminder Tristan Jarry on waivers at 2 p.m. EST, likely marking the end of an era between the pipes for the Penguins.

It’s been a difficult year for the 29-year-old goaltender, who has experienced struggles since the start of the season. So much so that it led to the Penguins having to send Jarry down to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League (AHL) on a conditional loan earlier in the 2024-25 campaign.

Overall, Jarry’s numbers through 22 games have not been up to par. Through those games, he’s posted a 3.31 goals against average (GAA) with a rough .886 save percentage. According to Evolving Hockey, the netminder ranked fourth-to-last in the National Hockey League with -8.83 goals saved above expected (GSAx).

Jarry has started 39 or more games for the Penguins dating back to the 2020-21 season and has served as their starter for three straight years before this one. It remains to be seen where Jarry will end up.
