Steelers Floated As Hypothetical Trade Fit For Four-Time Pro Bowler

Who will play QB for the Steelers in 2025?

The Pittsburgh Steelers will take the field on Saturday night against the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round of the National Football League playoffs.

Pittsburgh is 1-1 against the Ravens so far this season and does have a chance to take Baltimore down. The Steelers’ full focus should be on the playoffs, but there will be decisions that the team needs to make after the season ends.

The biggest one arguably will be about the quarterback position. Pittsburgh has two capable options in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields but neither are under contract beyond this season. The most likely option seems to be one of these two returning next year. If the team decides to go in a different direction, though, Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton suggested Kirk Cousins as a fit.

“Steelers Get: QB Kirk Cousins (and) Falcons Get: 2025 4th-round pick, EDGE Preston Smith,” Moton said. “Like the New York Giants, the Pittsburgh Steelers don’t have a quarterback under contract beyond the 2024 season. Pittsburgh opened the campaign with Justin Fields under center, then benched him for Russell Wilson in Week 7.

“Initially, Wilson played at a level that could’ve earned him an extension, but he’s struggled since the beginning of December, throwing for six touchdowns and two interceptions while racking up fewer than 218 passing yards in each of his last five outings… With a veteran-laden roster, Pittsburgh may favor a highly experienced signal-caller. Cousins would certainly fit that criterion with 159 career starts. If the 36-year-old avoids turnovers, he can help the Steelers win games, complementing a stout defense. Pittsburgh can package Preston Smith with their 2025 fourth-round pick to compete with offers for Cousins from other teams.”

Cousins is a four-time Pro Bowler who could be a solid addition at the right price. Cousins may not be the answer for the Steelers, but the quarterback position will need to be addressed.
