Will the Pittsburgh Steelers make any moves before the playoffs kick off?
Pittsburgh has just one more regular season game on Saturday against the Cincinnati Bengals before they turn their full focus to the postseason. The Steelers have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs, but it wouldn’t hurt to add another piece to help the defense before the postseason kicks off.
Will the Steelers make any moves? They certainly could. There are some intriguing players available in free agency. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox made a list of the top remaining free agents with “potential landing spots.” Eight-time Pro Bowler Patrick Peterson was on his list and Knox floated the Steelers as a fit.
“Cornerback Patrick Peterson has been available since the Pittsburgh Steelers released him in March,” Knox said. “However, he played well for Pittsburgh in 2023. He appeared in all 17 games, with 16 starts, and showcased some positional versatility by spending some time at safety. Peterson allowed an opposing passer rating of 91.5 in coverage last season, which isn’t great but is far from a disaster. The 34-year-old also has extensive experience as a return specialist, though he hasn’t returned a kick since 2018.
“A return to Pittsburgh for insurance purposes would make a ton of sense. Top corner Joey Porter Jr. missed Week 17 with a knee injury, and while he’s expected to play against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, there’s always a risk of reinjury. Fellow cornerback Donte Jackson is also dealing with a back injury.”

The Steelers’ defense hasn’t been what the team hoped it could be over the last few weeks. If Pittsburgh could reunite with Peterson, maybe he could help give a needed boost before the playoffs.
