A former Pittsburgh Steelers safety has recently signed with one of the Steelers’ potential playoff opponents, the Los Angeles Chargers.
Pittsburgh drafted safety Terrell Edmunds in the first round of the 2018 draft. Edmunds spent the first five seasons of his career in Pittsburgh, then signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 before being traded to the Tennessee Titans. He returned to the Steelers this season and appeared in five games before being released.
Edmunds was signed to the Chargers practice squad ahead of the playoffs, according to Penn Live’s Nick Farabaugh.
“The Los Angeles Chargers have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Terrell Edmunds to their practice squad, the team announced on Thursday,” Farabaugh said. “Edmunds was hosted for workouts by multiple teams around the NFL, but the Chargers are where he lands.”
“The Steelers released Edmunds over two months ago after he was a sub-package piece and a part of their coverage units. However, Edmunds was cut once the team got healthy and never re-signed to the practice squad. Cam Sutton, who returned after an eight-game suspension, took over Edmunds‘ role in the team’s dime packages, thus rendering him without a clear role on the roster.”

Edmunds has six interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and 465 total tackles in his career, which could help give the Chargers depth in the secondary as they look ahead to the playoffs. There is a chance Edmunds and the Chargers could see the Steelers in the first round of the playoffs, depending on how things play out in Week 18.
