Promising Steelers Rookie Takes Positive Step Toward Return

Wilson has missed most of his rookie season

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have an offensive weapon returning for the playoffs.

Pittsburgh is on a three-game losing streak, falling from 10-3 to 10-3, but has already clinched a playoff spot and can potentially win the AFC North in Week 18. The offense has struggled the past three games, averaging only ten points and 183 passing yards. Behind star George Pickens, the Steelers need receiving help and may get it from rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson.

Wilson is a third-round pick rookie receiver who returned to practice and has a window to be activated ahead of playoffs, according to Steelers.com’s Teresa Varley.

“Linebacker Cole Holcomb, defensive lineman Logan Lee and receiver Roman Wilson returned to practice today but remain on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List (Holcomb) and Reserve/Injured List (Lee and Wilson),” Varley said. “The Steelers have a 21-day window to either activate any of them to the 53-man roster, or they remain out for the the remainder of the year.”

“Wilson was placed on the Reserve/Injured List on Oct. 28. Wilson, one of the team’s third-round picks in 2024, was selected with the 84th overall pick. Wilson played college football at Michigan where he appeared in 46 career games, finishing his career with 107 receptions for 1,707 yards and 20 touchdowns. In 2023 he appeared in 15 games, finishing with career highs with 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns.”

Wilson has only appeared in one game for the Steelers this season, playing against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. He has yet to record a catch in his young career, but he is a third-round pick who could be an interesting option to help improve the Steelers offense in the playoffs.
