Penguins’ Mike Sullivan Offers Positive Update On Kris Letang

Letang missed last Sunday's game due to a lower-body injury

The Penguins appeared to avoid a serious injury for one of their top blueliners.

Kris Letang missed last Sunday’s win over the New York Islanders at PPG Paints Arena due to a lower-body injury. The veteran suffered the injury the night before against the Isles at UBS Arena. The two-time Stanley Cup champion finished the game but his status was in doubt.

Head coach Mike Sullivan offered a positive update when he described Letang’s injury as “day-to-day,” per Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette. Letang didn’t participate in morning skate Tuesday, so it’s up in the air if he’ll play against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena.

Fellow defenseman Owen Pickering, who was placed on injured reserve last week, was cleared for full contact but won’t play on New Year’s Eve. However, the Penguins are expected to get Marcus Pettersson back.

Puck drop for the Penguins-Red Wings matchup is scheduled at 8 p.m. ET on SportsNet Pittsburgh.
