The Pittsburgh Pirates have a solid farm system despite having multiple top prospects reach the majors last season.
The Pirates farm system is littered with talented pitchers even after Paul Skenes and Jared Jones made their way to the big leagues. The two rookie pitchers excelled and were integral to Pittsburgh’s rotation. Skenes had an especially historic season, being named an All-Star and the National League Rookie of the Year, displaying the Pirates’ ability to develop young pitchers.
Bleacher Report ranked every team in the league’s farm system, with the Pirates’ farm system ranking in the upper half at No. 15, headlined by a trio of pitching prospects ranked in MLB Pipeline’s top 100 prospects.
“Even after graduating Paul Skenes and Jared Jones to the majors, the Pirates still have a wealth of pitching talent rising the minor league ranks, and it’s not out of the question to think Bubba Chandler, Thomas Harrington, and Braxton Ashcraft could all start games in 2025. It has been years since this system produced an impact position player, but they know how to develop arms.”
Pittsburgh is loaded with young talent. Bleacher Report ranked right-handed pitcher Chandler as the team’s No. 1 prospect, followed by shortstop Konnor Griffin at No. 2 and right-handed pitcher Harrington at No. 3.
