Quarterback Russell Wilson has been a solid fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense in his first season with the black and gold.
The Steelers signed Wilson to a one-year veteran minimum contract after the Denver Broncos released him. Wilson suffered an injury that held him out of the season’s first six weeks and has gone 6-4 as the starter for the Steelers, leading the team to the playoffs. He has totaled 2,334 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 10 games this season while adding two touchdowns on the ground.
While on an episode of Get Up, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Steelers would like to retain Wilson beyond the 2024 season.
“They’d like to go ahead and keep Russell Wilson and re-sign him to keep him in Pittsburgh,” Schefter said. “Who’s gonna be out there that’s an upgrade over Russell Wilson right now?”
“There are two logical first-round quarterbacks in the draft, they’re not gonna get either one of those. The top free-agent quarterbacks are gonna be Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson. Is there another quarterback in the trade market that’s all of a sudden gonna spring-free? Probably not. So, this is where the Steelers are.”

It is unsurprising that the Steelers would be interested in a reunion with the veteran quarterback. Wilson has championship experience and was 6-1 under center before Pittsburgh’s rough stretch. Wilson will lead the Steelers against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 18 to close out the regular season with the AFC North still attainable.
