Steelers Loss To Chiefs Allows Ravens To Take AFC North Lead

Pittsburgh now sits in a wild card spot

With one week left in the 2024 NFL regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have watched their lead in the AFC North completely disappear.

After a season that has seen the Steelers outdo their initial expectations, the last three weeks of play have left them looking for answers on how to turn things around. The loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas day was the backbreaker to what had been a tough couple of weeks — marking their third straight loss and this time it was in lopsided fashion, 29-10.

When Pittsburgh had tackled the Baltimore Ravens back in Week 11, they had broken out to a two-game division lead. However, Baltimore only lost one more game from that point forward and was able to take down the Steelers in Week 16, making the division one game closer.

The three losses in a row opened up the continued problems for Pittsburgh, as it also marked a third straight game in which they lost more than 10 points. Dating back to Week 15, the Steelers were dominated and showed little signs of success on offense when they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 27-13. The Ravens’ loss followed a similar format as Lamar Jackson led his team to 34 points, while the Steelers’ early-season problems returned — scoring just 17 and not being able to eclipse 20 once again. Finally, the aforementioned loss to the Chiefs confirmed the idea that it wasn’t just the absence of George Pickens that hurt this team as his return still only saw Pittsburgh score 10 points in their loss.

Pittsburgh will have one more shot to get back on track ahead of the playoffs when they face the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan 5.
