Should Steelers Consider Major Trade Involving Pro Bowler TJ Watt?

What will Pittsburgh do?

Should the Pittsburgh Steelers make a surprising trade?

The Steelers have lost three straight games and unsurprisingly that has led to a lot of negative chatter. The Steelers are going to be in the playoffs and have a chance to win the AFC North and yet all of the chatter lately has been negative. FOX Sports’ Jason McIntyre even suggested that the team should start over and trade six-time Pro Bowler TJ Watt.

“I took a lot of heat when I said over the offseason the Steelers should trade T.J. Watt and start over, but I wasn’t wrong,” McIntyre said. “I was just early. I looked for nine or 10 weeks, but this team needs to start over.”

This would be an absolutely shocking move in the offseason and shouldn’t be done. He’s under contract for one more year before hitting free agency. Pittsburgh should instead find a way to give him a long-term extension. He’s 30 years old and is a game-changing defensive talent.

Watt has 11.5 sacks this season and has led the league in sacks three times throughout his career so far in eight years. Pittsburgh was talked about as a Super Bowl contender for much of the year. Three straight losses has changed things, and now it’s all doom and gloom.

A trade involving Watt absolutely shouldn’t be considered unless the Steelers are completely blow up the roster but even that wouldn’t be a good idea. Pittsburgh is closer to contention than they are to a top draft pick. There is no reason to make a deal like this at this time.
