The Pittsburgh Steelers have been looking for talent for the wide receiver room all season.
Pittsburgh made a deal ahead of the trade deadline and went out and got Mike Williams from the New York Jets. The Steelers have the makings of a real contender in the AFC but are dealing with some injuries. Star receiver George Pickens has missed some time and Williams hasn’t gotten a lot of opportunities yet.
Could the Steelers look to make another move? An old friend is now available after the Baltimore Ravens waived former Steelers Pro Bowler Diontae Johnson. Bleacher Report’s Paul Kasabian floated Pittsburgh as a possible landing spot.
“Johnson could thrive in Pittsburgh again, and the opportunity may be there for him to do so,” Kasabian said. “George Pickens is the clear top pass-catcher in Pittsburgh, but he’ll miss three straight games with a hamstring injury after sitting Saturday’s game at the Ravens.
“Calvin Austin III has made some big plays as the WR2 with 452 receiving yards and four touchdowns, but he’s also caught just 28 passes in 14 games. No other Steeler wide receiver has more than 231 yards. Johnson can be productive, consistent and reliable for Wilson, soaking up targets and become a top-two receiver down the stretch.”

If the Steelers want him all they would have to do is place a waiver claim on him and hope another team doesn’t. Or, if he goes unclaimed, the Steelers could always sign him in free agency.
