The Pittsburgh Steelers are building something special.
Pittsburgh is 10-4 heading into its Week 16 clash against the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs this year and one of the biggest reasons why is the addition of star quarterback Russell Wilson. He is 6-2 as the team’s starter but will he stick around beyond this season?
He’s not under contract beyond this season, but FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz suggested a three-year, $100 million extension could be possible on “The Herd With Colin Cowherd.”
“I think they believe they have found that solution with Russell Wilson,” Schultz said. “It hasn’t been as good lately because George Pickens has been out and that’s their big-play guy. He’s a weapon you simply can’t replace. That being said, we have seen a version of Russell Wilson that compares favorably to Seattle…There is a very good chance Steelers extend Russell Wilson similarly to what Tampa did with Baker Mayfield — three years, $100 million.”
This seems like a fair deal. Some quarterbacks have landed deals in the range of $50 million or more. If the Steelers could keep Wilson around for the foreseeable future with an annual value of just over $33 million per year, that seems perfectly fair for a team that realistically can win the Super Bowl this year. The Steelers made the right call bringing Wilson in and should keep him around.
