The Pittsburgh Penguins have added some depth in the form of an old friend on the blue line.
President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas announced on Wednesday that the Penguins acquired defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph from the St. Louis Blues for future considerations.
Joseph spent his first four seasons with the Penguins before leaving for the Blues over the offseason. The 25-year-old played in 23 games for St. Louis, totaling two assists and a plus/minus of -7. In his time previously with Pittsburgh, Joseph played in 147 games with eight goals, 29 assists, and 37 points — with his best season coming in his rookie campaign in the 2022-23 season with 21 points and a +8 finish. He was originally selected by the Penguins in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft, selecting him 23rd overall.
Pittsburgh’s newly added defenseman brings the necessary depth after defender Marcus Pettersson was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.
Joseph may get his first opportunity to take the ice for the Penguins in their next contest on Saturday night against the New Jersey Devils. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. EST
