The Pittsburgh Penguins earned another much-needed victory on Tuesday night.
Don’t look now, but the Penguins have now won seven of their last ten games while recording a point in eight of the previous ten. That was made possible Tuesday when they earned one of their better wins of the season, coming back against the Los Angeles Kings to ultimately win in overtime by a score of 3-2.
Los Angeles had kicked off the scoring in the first period when Adrian Kempe potted his 16th of the season. As has happened often in the Penguins’ last two decades, Evgeni Malkin came through to tie things up in the second period — assisted by Michael Bunting and Bryan Rust. It wasn’t too long after that Alex Turcotte gave Los Angeles the lead once again, meaning that Pittsburgh had to figure things out in the third period.
It was defenseman Matt Grzelcyk who scored his first goal as a Penguin at 14:25 in the third period — allowing Pittsburgh to force overtime. Finally, in overtime, Rickard Rakell was the savior for the Penguins, scoring his 14th goal and the game-winner to send the Penguins and their fans home happy. Alex Nedeljkovic made 29 saves in the effort, including five saves on the power play.
Pittsburgh will look to make it two wins in the row when they face the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
