The Pittsburgh Steelers are among the top contenders in the AFC right now but will have some questions to answer.
Pittsburgh is 10-3 heading into its Week 15 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Steelers currently have the No. 3 seed in the AFC Playoff Picture. One of the biggest reasons for the Steelers’ turnaround this season has been significantly improved quarterback play.
The Steelers were 4-2 with Justin Fields under center for the first six weeks of the season. Russell Wilson took over the job after that and is 6-1 on the season heading into Week 15. One big question the Steelers will have to answer who is going to be the team’s quarterback in 2025 and beyond?
Neither are under contract beyond this season. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox made a list of predictions of possible extensions and predicted that Wilson will land a $135 Million deal to stay with Pittsburgh.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t typically address contracts during the season,” Knox said. “Therefore, quarterback Russell Wilson is probably the biggest long shot on this list to receive one before the end of 2024. There’s at least a chance, however, that general manager Omar Khan will break tradition and lock up Wilson before the offseason. All indications are that Pittsburgh wants the 36-yer-old to be its starter next year, though Justin Fields could also be in the team’s plans.

“There are two big reasons why the Steelers may want to get out in front of the 2025 quarterback market. Their names are Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold…Contract Projection: Three years, $135 million with $75 million guaranteed.”
This is just a hypothetical, but it would be a good idea to get out in front of a deal. Pittsburgh has proven it can win with Wilson under center. Why not give him a new deal to keep him around?
