Penguins Score Six Third-Period Goals In Win Over Canadiens

The Pens came through Thursday

The Pittsburgh Penguins had their most impressive win of the season Thursday night.

Pittsburgh looked to get back in the win column after a tough one-sided loss to the Colorado Avalanche, and they did exactly that against the Montreal Canadiens, winning by a lopsided 9-2 score.

Despite the score, this game was close for the first two periods as Bryan Rust’s first two goals of the game in the second period allowed the Penguins to carry a 3-2 lead into the third period. However, in the third period, the Penguins exploded offensively with six unanswered goals — including Rust’s hat trick goal and Rickard Rakell’s second of the game. In total, 12 Penguins skaters recorded at least one point in the win.

It wasn’t just the offense that came through, as Tristan Jarry also had a strong game — stopping 21 of 23 shots while posting a .913 save percentage. The performance was his third in his last five starts allowing two or fewer goals.

The Penguins are now 6-4-0 over their last 10 games and are currently 13-14-4 with 30 points on the season. Pittsburgh has the chance to make it two in a row on Saturday when they travel to Ottawa to face the Senators.
