The Pittsburgh Steelers are drawing comparisons to the best teams in the league as they sit atop the AFC North.
The 10-3 Steelers have a two-game lead in their division above the Baltimore Ravens and can clinch the division with a Week 16 victory over the Ravens. Adding quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson in the offseason has significantly paid off. Fields went 4-2 as the starter with Wilson injured, and Pittsburgh is 6-1 with Wilson under center.
While on the Unbuttoned podcast with Chris Simms, former New England Patriots All-Pro safety and Super Bowl champion Devin McCourty compared the Steelers with the reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, for their ability to consistently find ways to win each week.
“This Pittsburgh team, they remind me of the team we just watched, the Kansas City Chiefs,” McCourty said. “They’re not getting the credit that Kansas City is getting because Kansas City is the defending champs, but this Pittsburgh Steelers team wins whatever way they want.
“Last week, it was Russ (Wilson) throwing for 400 yards. This week, not as many, but we’re running the ball with Najee Harris, we’re gonna play good defense. We’re gonna do different things. Maybe it’s T.J. Watt, maybe it’s (Nick) Herbig, maybe it’s (Alex) Highsmith. You don’t know who it’s gonna be, but they find a way.”

Being compared to the 12-1 reigning Super Bowl champions is the company the Steelers should want to be associated with. The Steelers have an elite defense that only allows the fifth-fewest points per game (18.3) and seventh-fewest yards per game (310.2), while Wilson has played great on the offensive side, throwing 12 touchdowns to only three interceptions.
Pittsburgh is in a good position to make a deep playoff run this season.
