Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin continues to display how he is one of the best coaches in the league.
The Steelers are 9-3 this season with Tomlin and have utilized players discarded from other teams, like quarterbacks Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, bringing out their full potential. Pittsburgh’s offseason moves look better and better with each passing week, including trading for cornerback Donte Jackson.
The Steelers acquired Jackson for Diontae Johnson in a trade with the Carolina Panthers in the offseason. After being dealt to the Baltimore Ravens, Johnson was recently suspended one game for conduct detrimental to the team by the Ravens.
During a spot of NFL On NBC, analyst Mike Florio complimented Tomlin on his ability to handle players with recurring issues off the field, as transcribed by Sports Illustrated’s Ari Meyer.
“He knows how to speak to the better angels of players who might be inclined to be a problem,” Florio said. “Look at what he did with George Pickens after he got pushed down to the ground on the pick-six to start the game three plays into the opening drive. He pulls George Pickens aside and he says what he needs to say to get George Pickens ready to go out and score a touchdown and even things up.”

“Tomlin and the Steelers decided they had enough with Diontae Johnson just like they decided they had enough with Antonio Brown just like they decided they had enough with other guys. And they might decide they’ve had enough with George Pickens, who knows? But the guy’s always gonna be worse the next stop. And we’re gonna see all the warts.”
Although Pickens has had issues this season, he continues to impact the Steelers’ offense. Tomlin’s ability to get the most out of his players is one reason the Steelers are in a great position at the top of the AFC North.
