Steelers OC Listed As Potential Candidate For Head Coaching Job

Will Smith remain in Pittsburgh after this season?

The Pittsburgh Steelers continued to grow their lead in the AFC North with their 44-38 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, climbing to 9-3.

Pittsburgh is looking to make a deep playoff run this season. Unlike last season, where the Steelers had the worst offense out of the playoff teams, their offense has looked great with Russell Wilson under center. In their win against the Bengals, Wilson threw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns.

The Steelers made other offseason acquisitions that have improved the offense, namely hiring offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. With Smith as the offensive coordinator, Pittsburgh’s offense has ranked in the league’s upper half in yards per game, averaging 344.

While speaking on FOX’s NFL Sunday, Jay Glazer listed Smith as a potential candidate to fill the vacant head coaching position of the Chicago Bears, as transcribed by Sports Illustrated’s Ari Meyer.

“I think the number one thing for them, is they’re gonna need an offensive coach I think that can really sit there and teach and mold Caleb Williams over the years, that can develop,” Glazer said. “So you look at some of the guys out there like Arthur Smith, what he’s doing in Pittsburgh right now.”

The Bears’ offense has been underperforming, but they have some good players. They have the 2024 No.1 overall pick in quarterback Caleb Williams. They also have receivers D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze. Smith’s offensive mind would be a major addition to this team. Smith’s future is unclear as Pittsburgh will likely want to keep him with how well the team is performing.
