Things are not going well for the new Baltimore Ravens wide receiver on his new team.
The Ravens announced Wednesday afternoon that they’d be suspending wide receiver Diontae Johnson for one game for conduct detrimental to the team. He will miss the game against the New York Giants on Dec. 15 following the team’s bye week. Johnson was acquired at the NFL trade deadline from the Carolina Panthers for a 2025 fifth-round pick.
Baltimore’s executive vice president and general manager Eric DeCosta revealed that the conduct was due to Johnson refusing to enter the game against the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday.
Johnson has just one catch in four games with the Ravens after having 30 receptions with Carolina over a seven-game span. He also has 363 receiving yards and three touchdowns on the season — having been a real contributor to the Panthers before being dealt.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver was traded away in the offseason to the Panthers for cornerback Donte Jackson as well as a pick swap. Pittsburgh had selected him with the 66th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The 28-year-old receiver was a Pro Bowler for the Steelers in 2021, going for 1161 yards on 107 receptions along with eight touchdowns.
