The Pittsburgh Penguins have found themselves a player after their latest trade.
Pittsburgh acquired Philip Tomasino from the Nashville Predators for a 2027 fourth-round pick back on Nov. 25 and it’s already proven to be a strong acquisition for the Pens.
The forward has already played in three games for Pittsburgh, scoring two goals — including the game-winning score in the Penguins’ win over the Boston Bruins on Friday. He’s led the Penguins in shots over those last three games as well, racking up 12 shots — five less than he had with the Predators in 11 games.
When asked about his performance so far and the shoot-first mentality, Tomasino praised Evgeni Malkin, who he has been paired with on the second line since coming over to the Penguins.
“I feel like I’ve been getting some pretty good chances here,” Tomasino said, as transcribed by Trib Live’s Seth Rorabaugh. “Especially playing with a guy like (Malkin), he draws so much attention. You can get a little bit more open. He’s found me, I don’t know how many times. It’s been good. Hopefully, I can continue to put the puck into the net even a little bit more. If you’re shooting the puck, it means you’re getting some pretty good looks here. That’s kind of my mindset as of right now, for sure.”

Tomasino will look to keep the momentum going on Tuesday when the Penguins hit the ice to face the Florida Panthers.
