Mike Sullivan Compares Michael Bunting To Former Penguins Stanley Cup Winner

Bunting is playing a big role for the Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins have started to turn things around as of late and a big part of that has been the role players stepping up.

Pittsburgh is coming off their third-straight win on Saturday night after taking down the Calgary Flames by a score of 6-2. One of the major contributors to that game was forward Michael Bunting, who scored a power-play goal while dishing out two assists — good for a game-leading three-point performance.

Bunting is contributing on the third line alongside Blake Lizotte and Anthony Beauvillier. Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan sees a certain level of play in the 29-year-old’s game, comparing him to former Pens Stanley Cup winner Patric Hornqvist.

“He tends to get under our opponents’ skin,” Sullivan said, as transcribed by Trib Live’s Seth Rorabaugh. “He reminds me a lot of Patric Hornqvist in that regard. (Hornqvist) was that type of guy, too. For whatever reason, our opponents couldn’t stand him. And I think (Bunting) has similar attributes in that regard.”

Through 25 games, Bunting has five goals and five assists, good for 10 points. The forward should be able to use his recent performance to piece some strong play together.
