Mike Tomlin Says Steelers Wideout Needs To ‘Grow Up’ After Win

The Steelers head coach didn't hold back

Even after a strong win Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to improve on and off the field.

Pittsburgh fought to a 44-38 shootout win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The offense was led by Russell Wilson, who threw for 414 passing yards and three touchdowns. One of those scores was to Steelers top wideout George Pickens, who scored on a 17-yard catch-and-run. Unfortunately for Pickens, he still walked out of the game with two unsportsmanlike penalties — something that his head coach took notice of.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t hold back when asked about Pickens, saying that the star wide receiver needs to grow up.

“He’s just got to grow up man,” Tomlin said about Pickens after the game, as transcribed by ESPN’s Brooke Pryor. “This emotional game, man, these divisional games are big. He got a target on his back because he’s George, he understands that, but he’s got to grow up. He’s got to grow up in a hurry.”

Pickens continues to make a difference on the field, but the two unsportsmanlike penalties come just one week after fighting Cleveland Browns defensive back Greg Newsome II at the end of the “Thursday Night Football” loss.
