The Detroit Lions are signing a former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker to their roster following defensive injuries.
The Lions defeated the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving 23-20. Although they prevailed over the Bears, the Lions suffered a loss with linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez tearing his ACL. Detroit has been forced to rely on depth as Rodriguez is the fourth player at the position to get injured.
In response to injuries on the defensive front, the Detroit Lions are signing former Steelers linebacker Kwon Alexander off the Denver Broncos practice squad according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.
“Lions are signing former Pro-Bowl linebacker Kwon Alexander from the Broncos’ practice squad, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey,” Schefter reported.
Alexander was a 2015 fourth-round pick for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2017. The 30-year old is in his tenth season in the league and has played for six organizations before Detroit.

Alexander spent the 2023 season with the Steelers, appearing in nine games. During that span, he recorded 41 total tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and one interception. A torn achilles ended his 2023 season, and ultimately, his time with the Steelers. Alexander appeared in three games with the Broncos this season, playing 65 defensive snaps before signing with the Lions.
The Steelers are 8-3 and sit atop the AFC North. With the Lions at 11-1, there’s a chance the two teams could see each other in the playoffs.
