Sidney Crosby, Top Line Carries Penguins To Much-Needed Win

The Pens fought hard for this one

Sidney Crosby once again helped the Pittsburgh Penguins escape their struggles, leading the way along with the first line to get a much-needed victory.

Pittsburgh had dropped three straight games heading into Wednesday night, with a tough matchup against the Vancouver Canucks being the challenge for them to overcome. As often has happened over the last 20 years, it was Crosby who’d help rescue the Penguins and get them on track.

The first period was a high-scoring battle, but the type of period that was huge for the Penguins. Pittsburgh scored four goals with the returning Blake Lizotte kicking off the scoring while he was followed by Rickard Rakell, Kevin Hayes, and Bryan Rust in the first period. Rust would follow through with a second goal to give Pittsburgh a 5-1 lead — both of which were assisted by Crosby. Vancouver came fighting back over the last two periods, but ultimately the Pens managed to walk away with the 5-4 win.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was a start for the Penguins as they try to turn things around this season. With the victory, they move to 8-12-4 on the campaign.

Pittsburgh will look to keep things going Friday night when they take on the Boston Bruins. Puck drop is set for 6:30 p.m. EST, live on TNT.
